On Finding An Apartment

Finding an apartment in New York City is a lot like finding a good melon:

it’s really hard to get one with two bedrooms for under $1800 a month.

On Me Owning a Lot of Books

I own a lot of books. A lot. You see, I have this theory that if I own a book, I’ll be more likely to read it. I figure if I borrow a book, from the library or a friend, I can easily just never read it, and eventually give it back to the friend when I feel I’ve kept it from them for too long. But if I

  1. buy a book
  2. I’ll feel guilty about having spent the money,
  3. and at some point I’ll break down and read it.

Does this system work? Well, I’ll tell you what, I’ve

  1. bought a lot of books,
  2. and I feel very guilty,
  3. and I break down a lot.

But no, no it doesn’t work.

On Assuming and Presuming

We all know that you should never assume. Because when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me.

But we should also never presume. Because when you presume you make an ass out of you and the president.

So come on, man, show some class: assume, don’t presume. Cut the president some freakin’ slack.
