This book collects every damn strip of Johnny the Mediocre Human, a comic strip I drew while in high school and during my time at Duke University.
Johnny was first seen on the pages of the school newspaper at Cox High School in Virginia Beach, VA. The strip then appeared in the region’s leading daily newspaper, The Virginian Pilot.
But the bulk of Johnny’s life was at dear old Duke. Johnny appeared in the pages of The Chronicle, Duke’s student-run daily, from January 1997 through May 1999.
These comics will teach you about:
- philosophy experiments gone horribly wrong
- bullshitting your way to an art history degree
- living off-campus on Mars
- and of course Fratman and Sorority Girl
There’s stuff that references Duke in the late 90s, but the strip is also just about the college experience in general. And holy moly, it’s a lot of strips. I mean, it’s over 430 strips, to be more exact.
I first published this book back at Duke in 2000. I only have a few copies left, so make sure to snap one up while they last.
