Sick! But better.

Sorry the past two days have not had strips. I was in bed sick!

But the fever is gone my friends! And now the comic strip fever returns! And it’s HEATING UP!!! A new strip will be up this afternoon.

Also, I’ll continue my one strip per day pace through the end of September. Then I’ll be all caught up, and we’ll go back to three strips a week. Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

Finally, remember to become a fan on Facebook:

Put my book between your face and your webcam

I sure do love spontaneous memes that are then unspontaneously propagated!

When I first got them from the printer, I held the first copy of my book between my face and my webcam and took this picture:

I hold my book between my face and my webcam

And I used that picture as my icon on Facebook and other places.

Then folks started buying my book, and they also started posting pictures of themselves with my book, looking just like my picture. For example, Brett:

And also Vero:

I’ve collected all the pictures people posted in this gallery.

If you’ve bought a book, post a picture of yourself with it on my Facebook page just like these guys! I’ll put it with the others.

If you haven’t bought a book, get one now! They’re on sale for only $11.99 through the end of August.

I’m moving cross country and would rather not lug a ton of books with me. So help me out!

You know you want a book. Because you know you want to take one of these pictures. It’s a delightful souvenir shot. Like when you ride the Cyclone, Everybody needs one. Even ScarJo:

Scarlett Johansson rides the rails.

EDIT: Here’s the new people who’ve sent me their pictures since I put this post up.

Buy my book before I move to LA!

Summer is here, and prices at PorterMason.com are dropping. Dropping like my rent when I move to Los Angeles in September!

Yes, in September I’m leaving New York to move to Los Angeles.

And you know what I don’t want to move across the country? Unsold piles of my book of Bassist Wanted comic strips, All Local Bands Suck (Except Ours)!

So help me out: buy my book of comic strips now

We all know you want to buy the book, but you just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Well friends, this is your moment.

I’ve even dropped the price to $11.99 for a limited time.

Only $11.99!! That’s less than a single ticket to Transformers 2! For 92 beautiful pages of comic strips! And none of that $11.99 will go to support director Michael Bay. I guarantee it.

I think we can all agree my book is this summer’s alternative to Transformers 2.

So again, if you’ve thought about buying the book, I’d really appreciate it if you’d pull the trigger now.

Buy it online right now.

You can use your PayPal account to pay for it, but if that annoys you, PayPal also lets you just use a credit card.

Now if you ever see me in person, I will always have copies of my book on me, and will be happy to sell you one right then. Believe me. Just ask.

But don’t wait to see me! Who ever sees me? No one! And you won’t have cash! Or you’ll I won’t be able to make change! Bah! What a hassle! Just buy it now online instead.

And if you wouldn’t mind, please pass on the word about the book.

Email friends. Blog about it. Put stuff on Facebook. Twitter some tweets. Every little bit helps.

Remember, this is a one-man operation.

I have no company backing me and my comics. It’s just me and you, friends. It’s me and you (and my book) against AIG and Halliburton! So let’s really give those corporate jerkfaces a run for their money, huh? Yeah!

OK, that’s it.

Love,
Porter

Comics are on the way, but Facebook album cover is here now

Sorry about the lack of comics this week and last. I was moving and couldn’t get to my drawing stuff nor did I have Internet hooked up at the new place. Lame!

Starting Monday, I will be running new strips five days a week for a few weeks to make up for the ones I missed. So fear not: you will possess all the sequantial-art-based humor you desire.

In the meanwhile, as soon as I did get my computer and Internet set up, I put together my entry into the Facebook “Random Album Cover” meme. I present to you the cover from The Universe Seems to Be Missing, the latest full-length from fictional Eugene, Oregon-based folk-pop outfit Silverdale Railway Station:

Album cover: Silverdale Rail Station - The Universe Seems to Be Missing

Here’s the instructions on how this came together if you are already not privy to them:

  1. Click “Random Article” on Wikipedia. The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
  2. Click on “Random quotations” on The Quotation Pages. The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
  3. Click on “explore the last seven days” on Flickr. Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
  4. Use Photoshop, the Gimp or similar to put it all together.
  5. Post it to FB with this text in the “caption” and TAG the friends you want to join in.

I resisted at first, but it actually a fun little task. Which reminds me, how come you’re not my Facebook friend? I mean, what the hell?

Pre-order the new book

Hey you! If you didn’t already know, there’s a book of Bassist Wanted strips coming out February 20th.

It’s 92 pages and has all the first two years of strips wrapped in a very pretty cover and SWAK. It’s only $12.99, and you should pick it up.

Buy it online now »

You’ve seen the strips online, but in print they look a lot nicer, I have to say, and you can read all my hidden messages which reveal a lot of Lost/Scientology secrets.

And this all a self-published and self-financed operation, so I’d really appreciate it if you’d help get the word out by blogging, podcasting, re-blogging, re-podcasting, Twittering, Facebooking and sandwich-boarding about the book as much as possible. My marketing budget is 0. I’m nothing without you.

This is a first, but won’t be a last. I will be coming out with a new book of the past year’s cartoons every Fall from here to eternity. Count on it!
