Went to see Dan Bern this Saturday with Flynn. If I was a real live blogger I would post a grain-y phonecam shot I took while at the event, or relate to you some hilarious but true anecdote of concert hijinks.
But I am not a real live blogger, so all I can tell you is: the concert was OK.
He played songs from his new album, Breathe, and also plenty of old stuff. He had a backing band including one guy with a badass electric cello thing.
The old songs he played were… rusty.
Dan Bern is the sort of musician that, well, let’s just say if you’re at a Dan Bern concert, you are a pretty big fan. Because the guy doesn’t really advertise, and he’s not on the radio.
I say all this not to point out that I’m so cool for liking him. (I am not, and never have been, cool.) I say all this to make clear that the entire audience knew pretty much every word to all the old songs, so when Dan didn’t… it was obvious.
Anyway, it was good to get out and see a show. And he played “Black Tornado”, which is my favorite. And the new album sounded good.
After the show, I met this hot girl at a bar, and we did it. (This is not true, but I like it when stories have happy endings.)
